Caves and more: the largest karst park in Emilia Romagna.
Located on the first hills of Bologna, it includes a band of chalky outcrops, which have given rise to a karst complex of extreme interest, and the suggestive Calanchi dell’Abbadessa.
Although affected by past mining activities, the Bolognese gypsum represent one of the main naturalistic emergencies of the region, with sinkholes, plateaus, blind valleys and cliffs that shape the landscape and host a vegetation characterized by Mediterranean presences and species linked to higher altitudinal bands.
