The oldest geological history: Scagliose clays and ophiolites

The clayey rocks that emerge in the band below the sandstones refer to the Ponte della Venturina Formation, included in the Sestola-Vidiciatico Unit, while further north, beyond Monte di Baigno, the clayey soils belong to the ancient rocky blanket traditionally known as the name of "Clays Scagliose", which extends along the Bolognese valleys from these altitudes to the foothills.
