Bortignano
The buildings in the rural village of Bortignano, located a short distance from Livergnano and Gorgognano, were definitively transformed into a farmhouse and barn towards the end of the 1800s but they are testimony to a history that is much older. In fact, one can recognize elements of the Church and Convent of S. Maria di Bortignano in the architecture. The church, which once belonged to the Gorgognano parish, was entrusted to the Carmelitani di S. Martino di Bologna monastic order in the 1400s and by the late 1500s it had many parishioners, until it was suppressed in Napoleonic times.
